Seni Seneviratne is a poet, creative artist and qualified psychotherapist. Her poetry collection, Wild Cinnamon and Winter Skin (Peepal Tree Press 2007) has been described as “a virtual master class between covers.” Her work was showcased in the Bloodaxe anthology Ten: New Poets from Spread the Word in 2010. She has been a Poetry School student for some time, and is currently anticipating the release of her Second collection The Heart of It. here, she chats to us about her new collection and being mentored by Mimi Khalvati. 

On a blustery National Poetry Day last week, we found ourselves surrounded by a host of some of the most talented young poets writing at the moment for the prize giving for the Foyles Young Poet Award 2011.

National Poetry Day is almost upon us and there's A LOT going on. Alongside Tim Burgess of The Charlatans fame releasing Jack Underwood's poetry as a B-Side on his record label and the chance to have Breakfast with Patience Agbabi, Simon Barraclough's hosting an all day workshop for The Poetry School dedicated in the utmost seriousness and sobriety to National Poetry Day's theme of games. In January, the Poetry School launched a new community writing project in South Kilburn as part of a series of public art projects for the South Kilburn Neighbourhood Trust.
