Grants to Students

If you cannot afford the full cost of taking part in Poetry School activities, we encourage you to apply for a grant to cover up to 75% of these costs. Our grants are limited and will be awarded in advance of each term. We would encourage you to apply early. The maximum you can apply for is £200 in any given year, though in exceptional circumstances we may be able to offer more. Priority is given to those who have not received financial support from us before.

NB. All grants for the Summer term have now been allocated. If you would like to apply for a grant for Autumn 2013, please fill in the form below.

How to apply

To apply for a grant, you will need to complete a brief form online. On the form you must state

  • The amount you are applying for and the activity which you are applying for support
  • Whether you have received a grant from us in the past
  • Your financial need
  • Copies of supporting documents as evidence of financial need  (if appropriate)
  • What you hope to gain as a writer from taking part in the activity

The Poetry School only has limited resources, so please only apply if you would otherwise be excluded from the activity, and please only ask us for the amount you need. Grants are available for all activities except tutorials, walks and talks. We will contact you following the activity to ask you how taking part benefited you: helping us with this will enable us to expand our grants scheme in the future.

N.B. Applications can also be made by post to 81 Lambeth Walk, London SE11 6D.

Our grants scheme is part-financed by the generosity of Poetry School participants. If you would like to pledge your support, please visit the donations page, or contact us at the office. Contributions, however small, are always welcome.
