Grants to Students

If you cannot afford the full cost of taking part in Poetry School activities, we encourage you to apply for a grant to cover up to 75% of these costs. Our grants are limited and are offered on a first-come first-served basis. The maximum you can apply for is £200 in any given year, though in exceptional circumstances we may be able to offer more. Priority is given to people who have not received financial support from us before.

How to apply

To apply for a grant, you should write to Ollie Dawson (Director) at the time of booking with the following information:

  • The amount you are applying for and the activity which you are applying for support
  • Whether you have received a grant from us in the past
  • Your financial need
  • Copies of supporting documents as evidence of financial need  (if appropriate)
  • What you hope to gain as a writer from taking part in the activity

The Poetry School only has limited resources, so please only apply if you would otherwise be excluded from the activity, and please only ask us for the amount you need. We will contact you following the activity to ask you how taking part benefited you: helping us with this will enable us to expand our grants scheme in the future.

Applications can be made by post to 81 Lambeth Walk, London SE11 6D or by email to director@poetryschool.com. If you send your application by email, please put 'Application Grants Scheme' in the subject line.

Our grants scheme is part-financed by the generosity of Poetry School participants. If you would like to pledge your support, please visit the donations page, or contact us at the office. Contributions, however small, are always welcome.
